I am a big fan of overnight oats either for breakfast to fuel my muscles after a big workout or in the afternoon as a snack to keep me going!
Bircher Muesli is very versatile, easy to prepare ahead for the week and my go to on those hectic school mornings. My kids enjoy it too with a few minor changes!
This recipe contains nuts and seeds full of nutrients and quality fats to keep you satiated, probiotic rich yoghurt for the gut and gluten friendly oats, a complex carbohydrate to fuel your body well.
Oats contains a soluble fibre called beta-glucan shown to promote a healthy heart. They have also been shown to positively impact the digestive tract making us more regular.
Left overnight, oats provide a good source of resistant starch which has been shown to assist with the breakdown of body fat. ⠀
This Bircher muesli can be easily adapted to suit your dietary requirements with nut free and oat free variations below. It can be warmed up in the winter and topped with fresh seasonal fruits, additional seeds, spices or a drizzle of raw honey for a bit of sweetness.
Containing real ingredients that will nourish the body well. A breakfast that is dairy free, soy free, egg free, vegan and easily adapted to suit all gluten intolerances and nut allergies. As always I offer substitutes for those who are sensitive to certain foods or like to try a bit of variety in flavours.
Savoury or sweet for breakfast? I personally prefer savoury but I also like to change things up from time to time.
